The Lobeliana Foundation was founded in 2022 in Santiago, Chile with the mission to conserve, investigate and bring into dialogue the vast knowledge about psychoactive plants and fungi, as well as the cultural history of drugs in all its dimensions.
Our project revolves around the construction of the Lobeliana Library, open to the public, and the Lobeliana Center for Studies (CEL) in Huerquehue, Araucanía Region. This space will house complete collections of visionary researchers—such as Jonathan Ott and Constantino Manuel Torres—preventing their works from being dispersed and preserving the curatorial coherence that makes them unique. The CEL will also be a residency and research center, with greenhouses, an audiovisual archive, and outreach programs that engage researchers, artists, and communities. We are guided by a panoramic and relational vision of knowledge: integrating the ancestral and the contemporary, the scientific and the poetic, the academic and the self-taught. We believe that only by weaving together these perspectives is it possible to understand and redefine our relationship with drugs, with nature, and with ourselves. At the Lobeliana Foundation, we foster critical thinking. A space that fosters critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and the exploration of the many ways in which plants, fungi, and substances have accompanied humanity's history in its searches for health, spirituality, art, and consciousness.
